PreviewSome mountain adventures aren't necessarily about reaching the summit through a long and difficult hike.
Sometimes, the journey itself—the winding road, the changing scenery, and the feeling of getting higher and higher—is already an adventure.
That was our experience at Mount Banoy, one of the most prominent mountain landmarks in Batangas.
Rising to around 960 to 987 meters above sea level, Mount Banoy stands along the border of Batangas City and Lobo and is recognized as the highest point in Batangas City. It is also locally known as “Wireless” Mountain, a name associated with the communication and broadcasting towers positioned near its summit.
For us, however, Mount Banoy became memorable not only because of its elevation or its towers, but because of the experience of getting there.
This was one of our semi-hiking adventures.
The journey going up wasn't exactly easy.
The road became more challenging as we continued climbing, and there were parts where we had to take our time and carefully make our way upward.
It wasn't the kind of road where you could simply rush through.
You had to pay attention to the path and the changing terrain.
But with every turn, we also found ourselves rewarded with something beautiful.
The higher we went, the better the view became.
The scenery slowly opened up, revealing wider landscapes and giving us a different perspective of Batangas.
What initially felt like a challenging climb started to feel more worthwhile as we realized just how much the elevation was changing the view around us.
There were moments when we wanted to stop simply to look around.
The mountains stretched into the distance, the surrounding landscape appeared smaller below us, and the open sky made everything feel much more expansive.
It was one of those experiences where the difficulty of the road becomes part of the story.
Because if the journey had been completely easy, perhaps we wouldn't have appreciated the view as much.
Every challenging section made the next viewpoint feel like a small reward.
For us, Mount Banoy wasn't a traditional hiking experience.
It was more of a semi-hike, semi-road adventure—a combination of navigating the mountain road, taking our time, and stopping whenever the scenery caught our attention.
And that made the journey feel different from simply visiting a viewpoint by car.
You experience the mountain gradually.
You feel the elevation changing.
And you get to see how the landscape transforms as you continue upward.
Eventually, as we continued higher, we reached the area associated with the mountain's famous Wireless identity.
Seeing the communication and broadcasting structures at such a high elevation was also interesting.
They serve as a reminder that Mount Banoy isn't only naturally significant—it also has an important strategic role because of its commanding position.
But beyond the towers, what stayed with us most was the scenery.
Standing high above the surrounding landscape gives you that feeling of being removed from the usual busy environment.
The air feels different.
The surroundings become quieter.
And the landscape seems to stretch much farther than you expected.
For us, Mount Banoy in Batangas City was not the kind of destination where we simply arrived, took a photo, and left.
The road itself became part of the adventure.
There were challenging sections, moments when we had to slow down, and plenty of opportunities to appreciate the changing scenery along the way.
It was a journey where the destination was only part of the experience.
And perhaps that's what makes Mount Banoy worth experiencing.
You don't necessarily need to be an experienced mountaineer to appreciate the journey.
You simply need the patience to take on the road, the willingness to explore, and enough time to stop and appreciate the scenery.
Looking back, the challenging road going up was definitely worth it.
Because at the end of the climb, we were rewarded with something that no ordinary roadside viewpoint could offer—a perspective from high above Batangas that made us appreciate the province in an entirely different way.
Mount Banoy reminded us that sometimes, the harder the road, the more rewarding the view.
Sometimes, the journey to a destination is just as memorable as the view waiting at the end.
That’s what makes Mount Banoy in Batangas City different. From the winding mountain road to the changing landscape and the views from higher elevations, the experience unfolds gradually as you make your way up.
