Uphill Sea View - The Mountains at San Miguel

PreviewEvery journey has a first stop, and for our Lobo adventure, it began at one of the area's most iconic landmarks—Malabrigo Point Lighthouse.
Unlike some of the destinations we discovered unexpectedly along the way, this was actually a place we had planned to visit.
We had heard about its historic character, its beautiful coastal location, and the incredible scenery surrounding it. So when we finally arrived, there was already a sense of excitement and curiosity about seeing the lighthouse for ourselves.
And the moment we stepped into the area, we understood why it has become such a recognizable landmark in Lobo, Batangas.
Standing against the coastline, the lighthouse immediately gives you the feeling that you've stepped into another era.
Parang bumalik ka sa sinaunang panahon.
The historic architecture, weathered walls, and quiet surroundings create an atmosphere that feels completely different from the modern world we are used to.
It's easy to imagine how different this place must have looked many years ago, when the lighthouse played an important role in guiding ships along the coastline.
The location itself makes the experience even more dramatic.
Positioned along the coast and overlooking the Verde Island Passage, Malabrigo Point Lighthouse stands high above the surrounding waters.
From the area, you can appreciate the expansive sea and the rugged coastline stretching into the distance.
The combination of the historic structure and the natural scenery makes Malabrigo Point Lighthouse feel like more than just an old building.
It feels like a piece of history standing above the sea.
As we explored the area, one thing immediately made us even more curious.
We couldn't go inside.
Access to the interior of the lighthouse was prohibited during our visit.
And naturally, that only made us wonder even more.
What does it look like inside?
What stories could those walls tell?
How did people live and work here when the lighthouse was still actively serving its original purpose?
Standing outside and looking at the structure, we couldn't help but imagine what the lighthouse must have been like during its earlier years.
The thought of lighthouse keepers spending their days and nights in this isolated coastal location is fascinating.
Before modern navigation systems and technology, lighthouses played an important role in helping ships safely navigate dangerous coastlines.
And here we were, standing in front of one of those historic structures.
Even without being able to enter, there was something powerful about simply being there.
The old architecture has a character that modern buildings simply cannot replicate.
Every weathered surface, every detail, and every part of the structure seems to carry a sense of history.
It's the kind of place where you naturally slow down and look more closely.
You begin wondering about the people who once stood in the same place.
The ships they watched from the lighthouse.
The storms they may have witnessed.
The nights they spent keeping the light operating.
And all the stories that may have happened here over the years.
But beyond the history, the surrounding scenery is another reason to visit Malabrigo Point Lighthouse in Lobo, Batangas.
Standing near the lighthouse, you are greeted by a breathtaking view of the sea.
The open horizon stretches far into the distance, while the coastline and surrounding landscape create a dramatic natural backdrop.
It is easy to understand why the location has also become a memorable place for sightseeing and photography.
The lighthouse itself provides a striking subject, while the sea and sky create a beautiful background.
For us, however, the most memorable part wasn't simply taking photos.
It was the feeling of being somewhere that connects the present to the past.
Our visit to Malabrigo Point Lighthouse became more than just checking another destination off our list.
It became an opportunity to experience a small piece of Batangas history.
And even though we couldn't enter the lighthouse, that limitation somehow made us more curious about its story.
Perhaps that's part of the charm of historic places.
They don't give you every answer.
Sometimes, they leave you with questions.
And those questions make you want to learn more.
Who built it?
Why was it built here?
What was life like for the people who maintained it?
How many ships passed by while its light guided them through the night?
Standing there, overlooking the sea, we realized that Malabrigo Point Lighthouse has witnessed generations of change while remaining firmly in its place.
The world around it has changed.
Technology has changed.
The communities nearby have changed.
But the lighthouse remains—a quiet reminder of another time.
And perhaps that's what makes historic landmarks so fascinating.
They allow us to stand in the present while imagining what life might have been like decades or even generations ago.
And that is what made Malabrigo Point Lighthouse the perfect first stop for our Lobo adventure.
It wasn't just the beautiful view.
It wasn't just the historic architecture.
It was the feeling of standing beside something that has been here for generations and imagining the stories hidden within its walls.
Our visit may have started with curiosity, but we left with even more questions—and perhaps that's exactly what a historic landmark is supposed to do.
It makes you look at the past, while standing firmly in the present.
And from Malabrigo Point Lighthouse, our Lobo adventure was only beginning.
For us, Malabrigo Point Lighthouse was more than just the first stop of our Lobo adventure.
It was the place that set the tone for everything that followed.
